New On-Line AIF for Superannuation Trustees

26th July 2010 04:47PM

With the objective to offer focused yet flexible training targeting fiduciary governance, The Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia (ASFA) has partnered with fi360 and legal firm Clayton Utz to adapt for Australian use the fi360 fiduciary quality management system, which is used globally as a benchmark standard for fiduciary excellence.

In early 2009 the bulk of the course modification and legal substantiation was completed in order to offer the full two day ASFA Accredited Investment Fiduciary (ASFA AIF®) course. The uptake from the beginning of 2009 has been significant, with 11 public sessions (individual enrollments) and several internally delivered courses for organisations, their boards and executive.

In response to the very strong endorsement of the course content, the offering has now been extended to a web based delivery, giving attendees three effective attendance options;

  1. a full two day public workshop with opportunities for interaction with attendee's representing various entities
  2. an internal two day workshop for the entity , it's trustee's and staff
  3. the 'Capstone' web based training with a one day workshop (either internal or public)

ASFA's  Pauline Vamos (CEO) and Wendy Stark (GM - Learning and Development) see the course as addressing the need for best practice for investment fiduciaries, as well as meeting APRA's 'fit and proper' operating standards.

With the release of MySuper proposals, the program  provides the definition and clarity needed for a principle based approach in contrast to the now well established rules based compliance. Trustees of entities are seeking reliable, standards based content to guide them on effective procedures, particularly around implementation and ongoing monitoring. Becoming equipped to ask the right questions is a terrific place to start.

Enrolment is via the ASFA website  or can be arranged by contacting .

Other board based entities including Charities (in Australia and NZ) can take advantage of the AIF program as can advisers. There are courses available to suit these specific groups.
